Erasmus+
Hosting School

We are eager to be a hosting school for Erasmus programs because we believe in the value of international collaboration and cultural exchange. By hosting students and teachers from different countries, we can foster a richer, more diverse learning environment for our own students. This experience will allow our community to grow, share knowledge, and enhance our teaching practices. We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that promotes mutual understanding, digital competence, and the development of global citizenship. Being a hosting school will enable us to contribute to and benefit from the Erasmus network’s educational goals.

March 2024

Spain

As part of the Erasmus+ KA121 program, our school hosted 18 students and 3 teachers from the Spanish school Egiluze Errenteria Ikastetxea from March 10th to March 14th, 2024. The Spanish students were hosted by the families of our students, and together they participated in educational, cultural, and recreational activities related to the goals of the program both inside and outside the school.

The school’s participation in the program was a unique experience that gave students the opportunity to develop skills such as independence, self-confidence, and communication, enhance their European and intercultural awareness, practice foreign languages, and form friendships with students from different socio-cultural backgrounds. Additionally, it boosted our school’s outward orientation within the local community and created new bonds and collaborations both within the school and with the teachers and the host school of the Erasmus+ group.

High School Friends

April 2025

Iceland

From March 30 to April 5, 2025, the 8th Junior High School of Lamia hosted 7 students and 3 teachers from Vatnsendaskóli, Iceland, as part of the Erasmus+ Accreditation program, promoting cultural exchange and cooperation.

The Icelandic students stayed with local families, building friendships and experiencing Greek hospitality. They visited key landmarks in Lamia, Thermopylae, Meteora, and Karpenisi, while also participating in environmental activities and attending school lessons.

Greek students embraced the experience, overcoming cultural differences and forming strong bonds with their Icelandic peers. Teachers from both countries shared educational insights, fostering mutual respect and professional connection.

The visit, supported by local authorities and the Directorate of Primary Education of Fthiotida, was a memorable and enriching exchange that strengthened European ties and created lasting memories.

April-May 2025
Poland
(Job Shadowing)

Our school had the pleasure of welcoming teachers from Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny w Juszczynie, Poland, as part of an Erasmus+ job shadowing program, funded by the European Social Fund.

The visit took place in two flows: In April 2025, we hosted English teachers Ewelina Formas and Edward Szczyrk, while in May we welcomed Principal and Biologist Irena Kulka, Science teacher Małgorzata Golec, and P.E. teacher Tomasz Wnętrzak.

During their stay, our guests attended lessons at our school and participated in various activities. The English teachers also visited the 4th Primary School of Lamia, where they observed Easter-themed educational activities.

The Polish team shared presentations about their school, including their “Greek Week” – a celebration of Greek culture, language, and cuisine inspired by our partnership. They actively joined hands-on projects like building a sundial in our schoolyard and took part in educational and cultural excursions to Athens, Volos, Thermopylae, Ypati, and local sites around Lamia.

This visit was a meaningful experience of cultural exchange, fostering stronger European ties and laying the groundwork for future collaboration. Next school year, we look forward to welcoming Polish students to Lamia and sending our students to Poland through the Erasmus+ KA122 program.

Special thanks to Dr. Kostas Louvaris for the engaging tour at the Asterosxoleio Ypatis, the 4th Primary School of Lamia for their kind hospitality, and all educators and students who made this exchange so special. These moments truly enrich our educational journey and strengthen the spirit of European cooperation.

(Group mobility)

From October 19 to 25, 2025, the 8th Junior High School of Lamia, Greece, successfully hosted fifteen students and three teachers from Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny w Juszczynie, Poland. This visit was part of the European transnational educational mobility program "Let’s Learn Together."

The Polish students were graciously hosted by families of the 8th Junior High students, who offered them a comprehensive experience of Greek hospitality and cultural exchange.

The program included a variety of educational and cultural activities held at the school, such as workshops in languages (English, Polish, and Greek) and Natural Sciences focusing on renewable energy. Students from both schools presented their institutions and countries, exchanged experiences, and participated in cooperative games, fostering strong bonds of friendship.

The visit also featured educational trips to historical and cultural sites. Highlights included the Thermopylae History Information Center, where they learned about the famous battle, and cultural excursions to the hot springs of Thermopylae and Kamena Vourla. A moving cultural event took place in Roditsa, where the local association welcomed the guests with music, and students were taught traditional Greek dances and presented Polish ones. The itinerary also featured a memorable day trip to the historic monasteries of Meteora and Trikala, and a visit to Athens where they toured the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, Plaka, and Syntagma Square.

The week concluded with a farewell meal organized by the Parents' Association. The two schools have already scheduled their next meeting in Poland in March 2025, under a new Erasmus+ project focused on "Inclusion, Innovation, and Digital Literacy through the School Library."

This week proved to be an invaluable experience of learning, cooperation, and cultural enrichment, strengthening the ties between the students and educators of both countries and highlighting the European spirit.

The mobility has been Co-funded by the European Union.
